Medha S.shares her experience about the Leadership session with Mayor Farrah Khan
The STYLE Leadership session with Mayor Farrah Khan on February 6, 2021, was one of my favorite events. Mayor Farrah Khan (Mayor of Irvine) led the interactive session and explained to us how the community can play a role in the local government. She also told us about the various volunteering opportunities in the city. It made me feel at ease when Venkat Uncle and Mayor Khan kept the conversation open to everyone in the call. Therefore everyone who wanted to participate and ask questions had the chance to do so and Mayor Khan answered all our questions. I am glad that Mayor Khan could come to the STYLE event and talk to us, even though she has a hectic schedule. Overall I am very happy that I had the chance to participate in the discussion and hope that Mayor Khan can come and talk to us again!
Rahul M. shares his experience about the Leadership session with Mayor Farrah Khan
Hi, my name is Rahul Mohan and I am in eleventh grade. I recently attended the STYLE Leadership session in which we had a presentation given to us by Farrah Khan, the Mayor of Irvine. It was an amazing experience as I was able to meet a fellow South Asian like myself who was able to get a political position here in America. Mayor Khan was able to share with us her experience and what she went through to become Mayor. It was very insightful as I was able to learn more about the role of community leaders in their communities and how big of an impact they can make. This session has encouraged me to go and pursue events related to community leadership and doing what can be done for the community. To summarize I thought this was a very great experience. I was glad to be a part of it and I would like to thank those who made this possible.
Vishaalakshi N shares her experience about the Leadership session with Mayor Farrah Khan
The STYLE Leadership session with Mayor Farrah Khan last Saturday (Feb 06, 2021) was an incredible experience for me! Meeting Mayor Farrah Khan was just unbelievable. The session was titled “Local Government and Community Participation” and it definitely gave a sense of how Government plays a huge role in the community. Mayor Khan explained how she got into Local Politics to better the lives of the public in her city. From the start of her career, to being elected as council member, and recently becoming Mayor of the City of Irvine the whole session was very inspirational. The entire meeting had helpful ideas and tips on how teenagers my age could get involved in the community by being a part of programs like YAT from school. Towards the end of the session it turned into a very interactive Q&A Session where Mayor Khan offered help for participants from various cities who voiced out their concerns and questions. The session to its entirety was one of the best STYLE sessions I have been to. Thank you to the organizers for setting up this call!! I really enjoyed it!! –
Vikrant. S.shares his experience about the Leadership session with Mayor Farrah Khan
During the STYLE Leadership session with Mayor Farrah Khan on February 6th, 2021, I learned about the various opportunities that the youth in the community have to participate and give back to their local community. The Honorable Mayor Mrs. Farrah N. Khan even mentioned that we could contact the city council or city mayor and let them know what it is that we would like to bring change within our communities. One of the major takeaways that I acquired from this session is that you can contact local council members to help start a chain reaction of ideas that would benefit the community. She also mentioned, high-school kids like us can join some programs such as working as an explorer, where the youth and teens can receive a uniform and work under the police department on different community projects if they choose to take this opportunity. I personally felt that this opportunity to meet a high-ranked official for the local government was a great experience for me. I got to know and learn more about the possibilities and explore the various paths that teens like me can go through in order to bring some changes and give back to the community. All in all, I was able to build onto my knowledge of opportunities to help the community and grab many takeaways from the mayor as well.
